Transition Year

All students attend Transition Year in St Joseph of Cluny. The purpose of the year is to help students make the transition from a highly structured and exam-orientated environment to one where they will take greater responsibility for their own learning and decision-making. The overall aims of the course are:

• Education for maturity, with an emphasis on social awareness and increased social competence.
• Education through experience of adult and working life as a basis for personal development and maturity.
• Promotion of general, technical and academic skills with an emphasis on inter-disciplinary and self-directed learning

The class timetable is a mixture of:

4. Practical Modules

• Applied Maths is offered after school once a week as optional

At the end of Transition year students, before going into Fifth year, can pick three subjects they tried in Transition Year to continue studying for Leaving Certificate.
