School Facilities

The secondary school is situated on twelve acres of beautiful, landscaped grounds overlooking Dublin Bay. In addition to the main school, the secondary school has a Sports Hall and two Art Rooms which occupy their own separate buildings. There is a Junior School also within the grounds and a convent which is a residence for the religious Sisters of the St. Joseph of Cluny Order.

School facilities have expanded and have been added to over the years. The 1980s saw the addition of new classrooms and Art Rooms and following that dedicated Computer and Geography rooms were built. The Computer Room now has a full range of state-of-the-art modern IT equipment including thirty networked stations with broadband access. All of the students’ computers are now less than two years old. The school Library and individual teacher based classrooms have a range of additional IT equipment including data projectors etc.

In 1999 a new Sports complex was completed at a cost of approx. €2m. This new addition to the school includes a gym suitable for all indoor sports including indoor hockey, basketball, badminton, tennis and table-tennis. All of these sports form part of the PE and after school extra-curricular Sports programme in the school. The Sports complex also includes three changing rooms with showers, a sports equipment room and a viewing area which also doubles as the school Cafeteria during lunchtime. Students have a range of snack food available to them here including rolls, sandwiches and soup.

In addition to these indoor facilities, the Sports facilities also include an all-weather hockey pitch and designated grass areas for the playing of soccer, Gaelic football, running and athletics. The school provides coaching in all sports.

Facilities in the main school include a Concert Hall, several Music Rooms, a designated Sewing Room, an Oratory and nineteen teacher based classrooms. In 2005 the school undertook a further major building extension which comprised the building of three new classrooms, a Study Hall, a new School Library, a second Home Economics kitchen and some additional administration offices. At the same time, a major refurbishment of the older building was undertaken. Upgrading work was carried out on two school laboratories, the Home Ec kitchen and major restoration and repair work was undertaken to modernise the building and ensure that it conforms to the highest safety standards. The summer of 2008 saw the final phase of this upgrading work with the refurbishment of a student toilet block among other summer works. In all over €4.5M has been spent by the school Board of Management and the Trustees on school refurbishment over the last ten years.

The Trustees and the Board remain committed to the development of school facilities. The next project it will focus on will be the creation of a new all-weather surface for the hockey pitch. Details on this new development will follow shortly.
