Pastoral System

pastoral system

The holistic aims of the school and the student-centred education that is provided is evident in a personal development programme, which is a feature of every year in the school. The aim is to develop the well-being, individual interests, social skills, and the spiritual development of the students here.Central to this are the roles of the Tutor and Year Head. Each student has a Tutor and a Year Head. They meet with the students regularly during the school week. Tutors encourage students to improve on their academic, personal and social strengths.

Year Heads supervise punctuality, absence, uniform, reports and homework. Year Heads also take assembly with their Year group once a week. The skills of the full time Guidance Counsellor and a Learning Support Teacher are available to students.

The Pastoral Programme also incorporates the spiritual development of students. Highlights of this programme include: annual day-long Retreats, a Community Service Programme, the assistance of a School Chaplin for annual class masses, time for spiritual reflection, a programme of charity and humanitarian assistance presided over by the Student Council and involving St. Vincent de Paul, Barnardos and Third World Charities. The personal development programme culminates in a Leadership Development Programme at Senior Level.

The House System which operates in the school also provides students with opportunities to develop leadership skills. It also helps students to form friendships beyond their own class groups and fosters team spirit and solidarity.
